A DAY RETREAT FOR EMBROIDERY ARTISTS
Join us for the inaugural Common Thread Retreat, a full day of workshops designed to better your skills as an embroidery artist. Founded by Danielle Susi and Kassie Scribner, Common Thread Retreat seeks to create a space for embroidery artists from all skill levels to be able to learn from their peers, while networking and brainstorming.
During this inaugural retreat, three acclaimed and experienced embroidery artists will guide a small group of 15 stitchers through a workshop focused on their individual special techniques and talents. Each attendee will get hands-on instruction in the three workshops and once the final stitch is made, they will have the option to attend a mixer overlooking the city. There, they will be able to mix and mingle with other attendees, instructors and hosts while enjoying cocktails, mocktails, and hors d’oeuvres.

Our Workshop Leaders
Jennifer Cardenas Riggs is a textile artist who has been part of the modern embroidery movement since 2014. Jennifer was taught to embroider by her grandmother when she was eight years old and has held onto this tradition, blending it with the visual arts degree that she earned in college to come up with her own unique and mystical designs. She sells her embroidery products, patterns and kits online and has worked on embroidery collaborations with Coach, Focus Features and Comcast. Her first book, Embroidery Now, is set to release in October 2019.
EMBROIDERED PATCHES & SHADING
Call me crazy, but I think art should be fun, affordable, and on every wall of your house.
I grew up along the coast of southern California, and I've been making art since I could hold my first crayon. My mom and grandmother taught me how to cross stitch when I was seven, and I was put in my first art class when I was still learning to tie my shoes. I was raised with the belief that if you love something enough and you have the dedication, you can do anything you put your mind to.
I have a tubby toddler an old lumpy dog and a very patient husband. We live in a little wooden house in Salt Lake City, surrounded by spicy lavender plants and humming bumblebees.
LETTERING & EMBROIDERY
By day, Kassie is a creative director working in house, and by night, she stitches her heart out. With an eye for unique and engaging designs, Kassie Scribner blends lettering, illustration and embroidery into one. Her work varies from a floral illustrative style, to pop-culture and nerd themed embroidery. In the end, her goal is to make the world brighter one stitch at a time. You can find Kassie at local makers markets like Craft Lake City DIY Festival and comic conventions like Salt Lake City FanX.
